The Nameg Calendar Celebrates the Essence of Bangaliana

✍️By Special Correspondent

Welcoming the year 2022, Nameg, the fashion store, located at 56 Raja Basanta Roy Road, near Southern Avenue swimming pool, launched its grand calendar showcasing twelve of its most coveted hand-woven sarees.

The calendar featuring 12 different Bengali looks of the yester-years in Benarasi, Muslin Jamdani, Cotton Jamdani and Bengal handlooms, was conceptualized and executed by city-based PR consultant Supreeta Singh featuring actress Richa Sharma, models Tanisha De and Sushmita Roy with makeup and styling by Kaushik and Rajat.

Each month features a special saree in a look and feel that brings back the extraordinary elegance and style of the yore that Bengali women sported against the backdrop of a European heritage in the city of Kolkata.

“We paired pearls, gems and other elegant jewellery with the stunning sarees trimmed with lace and teamed them with tulle blouses. Rajat and Kaushik’s make-up, hair and styling captured the retro-classic sophistication in the look against a backdrop that had a colonial feel to it. It almost looks like the models, all looking straight out of a 50’s black and white Bengali movie, are sporting their family heirlooms,” said Supreeta Singh.

Namita Dashora, one of the trio that owns Nameg said, “Our brand empowers women by employing them and sourcing materials from them. This year, we are looking forward to Women’s Day when we plan to celebrate our workers who comprise a huge team at Nameg and without whom we would not have been able to pull this off.”

This era of vintage fashion is timeless and Nameg wanted to celebrate that classic sense of being fashionable. Less is more, is what the emphasis is on.
