NH Howrah to launch first of its kind Paediatric ICU with advanced care

Parents of critically ill children now can avail world class paediatric intensive care close to their neighborhood. 

Anando Sangbad Live: In an endeavour to expand Paediatric care NH Howrah is all set to launch its first state-of-the-art Paediatric Intensive care catering to Howrah and nearby districts (Hooghly, East Midnapore, West Midnapore etc.) on 19th January 2021. The 20 bedded Paediatric Intensive care Unit will be a paragon in treating critical cases under paediatric care including Cardiac Sciences, Neurosciences, Haematology, Cancer Care, Nephrology, Urology, Orthopaedics, and similar Emergency Services.

Dr. Shubhadeep Das, Consultant Paediatric Intensivist, Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Howrah said “The new unit would provide all forms of intensive supportive care and monitoring facilities. It has the most modern medical ventilators, non-invasive ventilators, high flow machines, facilities for invasive blood pressure monitoring, central nervous pressure monitoring. Beside USG, echocardiography, dialysis facilities they are also in the process of providing ECMO (Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) machine which is the best advanced form of life support therapy. What would set them apart from several other units is the provision of 24×7 superspeciality coverage like paediatric cardiology, cardiac surgery, paediatric surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, Oncology, respiratory medicine  etc.

Dr. Debasis Das, Sr Consultant Paediatric & Adult Cardiac Surgery , NSH, Howrah while sharing his insights about the establishment of the PICU stated that, “As you all know that we are the premium centre for children’s heart diseases and Bone Marrow transplant, also one of the largest hospital of congenital heart surgeries in Eastern India. This endeavour is to expand the horizon of paediatric care to general emergencies as well.” 

Dr. Amitabha Chattopadhyay, Sr Consultant Paediatric Cardiology, NSH Howrah said that, “It is our pleasure to launch this PICU. As in this unprecedented time when more care and precautionary measures are needed to be taken, we have a team of doctors and staff members especially trained to give best care to the children.”
