Techno India University Organized Global Summit on Total Quality Management

Organizations all over the globe are investing their time and money articulating the critical strategies and implementing total quality management within, in order to revive the business journey. School of Management under Techno India University, West Bengal, organized a virtual Global Summit on Total Quality Management (GSTQM) in order to lead a path for post pandemic revival on 28th & 29th August 2021. The discussion platform was graced with the presence of global leaders & eminent personalities like Mr. Norihiko Nakajima, Managing Director & General Secretary of Union of Japanese Scientists & Engineers (JUSE), Co-Chancellor of Techno India University Prof. Manoshi Roy Chowdhury, Prof. Bhaskar Sengupta, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburg, UK & Officer of the Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE), Shri S J Kalokhe, President of Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI), Prof (Dr.) Goutam Sengupta, Vice-Chancellor of Techno India University & Chairman of Quality Circle Forum of India, Kolkata Chapter & Dr. M Satish Kumar from Queen’s University, Belfast, Ireland.


According to Dr. Gagan Pareek, Associate Dean of the School of Management under Techno India University, “Management is inherently quality sensitive, as it deals with human connections & conglomeration, taking into account the intangible empathies.” The powerful summit from 10am to 6:30pm, provided clear insight to the need and ways to implement total quality management. “Maintaining quality in every aspect of our life is very important. In order to be in business for long time, one must achieve certain quality assurance goals that are part of total quality management. Quality begins from the moment you enter the premises of an organization,” explained Co-Chancellor of Techno India University Prof. Manoshi Roy Chowdhury.
Mr. Norihiko Nakajima added, “TQM was created based on the quality control principles from the US. It helps in improving productivity & reducing the cost. TQM Has accelerated globalization in business, leading to more intensive competition & strategic response. Companies should target from product making to customer value creation.” Dr. Goutam Sengupta laid emphasis on objectives, principles, elements of TQM and also shared successful TQM stories of different organizations. He added, “One of the most notable TQM company is Xerox. The service of the company is directly linked to its name. They were greatly successful in 1960s but shrunk and was almost on the verge of going out of business in 1982. However, they made full use of TQM & rose high shortly.”
The discussion highlighted TQM & Blue Economy, TQM for MSME & education sectors, ways of maintaining sustainability and peace during pandemic era, artificial intelligence & quality control preparation and many more vital issues at hand. Co-Chancellor of Techno India University, West Bengal, Prof. Manoshi Roy Chowdhury & Prof. Goutam Roy Chowdhury, Chancellor of Techno India University have been awarded by Quality Circle Forum of India Kolkata Chapter for their outstanding contribution towards the cause of Higher Education for the state of West Bengal.
The second day of Global Summit marked Total Quality Management Innovators Competition (TQMIC) among teams, researchers & individuals from participating companies. The winners under Research Scholar & Student Category from Techno India University are- Poulami Hazra (First), Anondita Chatterji (Second) & Sudipta Bandyopadhyay (Third). The winners under Corporate Category are- CESC Limited (A K Dasgupta Memorial Trophy for Organizational Excellence), ITC Munger (P K Saha Memorial Trophy for Operational Excellence) & AM/NS (S C Dey Memorial Trophy for Professional Excellence).
