With the launch of the official trailer of ‘Avijatrik’ (The Wanderlust of Apu) today – the enduring and endearing character of ‘Apu’ is all set to return soon on the silver screen to enthrall the audiences after 6 decades! It is the sequel to the classic “Apu Trilogy”, directed by the legendary filmmaker, Satyajit Ray. The plot takes off from where “The Apu Trilogy” ended with “Apur Sansar” which incidentally was released on 1st May 1959. This film is our humble tribute to the master filmmaker himself on his centennial birthday.

It is also homage to evergreen actor, Soumitra Chatterjee, who resides in our hearts as quintessential ‘Apu’, noted author Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay & maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar.

The story of ‘Avijatrik’ revolves around a sublime bond between a father (Apu), played by talented Arjun Chakrabarty, and his 6-year-old son (Kajol). The film has explored a beautiful tapestry of pure interpersonal relationships to recreate the magic of Apu – sharing adventures with his beloved son, Kajol. The music of the film is by internationally acclaimed exponents, such as Bickram Ghosh and Anoushka Shankar, of the Indian classical genre & direction is by Subhrajit Mitra. In many ways, Avijatrik, is a unique film with a rich legacy and soulful music, besides sterling teamwork by an ensemble of experienced cast & crew. The film has been shot at 68 locations to retain the rich aesthetic flavor that compliments its backdrop of 1940’s India.

The trailer of the film was sent to various film festivals worldwide and it has already won the following accolades in the ‘INTERNATIONAL BEST TRAILER” Category.

Besides the above, the film is also the Winner at Montreal Independent Film Festival for ‘Best Composer’ (for Bickram Ghosh) and ‘ Best Cinematographer’ (for Supratim Bhol) at European Cinematography Awards. The film has been receiving recognition at various film festivals worldwide, including selection at Indian Panorama at 51th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

Avijatrik is Co-produced by Bhandarkar Entertainment who have entertained us for two decades& don’t need any introduction. They have forayed into Bengali cinema for the first time.
