BMB observes World Heart Day with Covid 19 warriors

Anando Sangbad Live: BM Birla Heart Research Centre, a Super-Speciality Cardiac Institute observed World Heart Day with some of its patients who underwent complicated cardiac procedures right in the midst of the pandemic. The hospital, which is designated as a ‘green zone’, granted a new lease of life to many who overcame their fears and inhibitions to visit the hospital. With gratitude and kindness, patients today spoke about their experience.


Eminent cardiologists and cardiac surgeons who have witnessed the evolution of cardiac science and have generously contributed to the specialised field have been pivotal to saving the lives of many during the lockdown. Cardiologists, Dr. Anil Mishra, Dr. Anjan Siotia, Dr. Ashok B Malpani, Dr. Dhiman Kahali, Dr. Tarun Praharaj, Dr. Shuvo Dutta, Dr. Sabyasachi Pal and Cardiac Surgeons like Dr. Manoj Daga and Dr. Ratan Das share the unanimous opinion that at the very core of a healthcare relationship lies trust. No doubt the frontline doctors and healthcare workers have shown immense courage and resilience to continue to serve the people while seamlessly adapting to the new normal. Moreover, one cannot lose sight of the courage shown by patients who have stepped out of their houses and visited the hospital to undergo complex cardiac procedures. The positivity that they have shared even during this time is truly commendable. These patients are definitely among the true COVID warriors.
They also serve as pioneers of the faith and trust that are associated with the healthcare industry. It’s their smile, spirit and wellbeing, which have inspired and given a ray of hope to the doctors who undoubtedly are fighting for the patients. The clinical excellence which the doctors shared along with patients experience in the new normal scenario gave a vibrant feeling of hope amidst fear and anxiety. The trust between a doctor and his patient is sacred will continue to remain unblemished even in these trying times. Taking care of one’s heart and to use the heart to beat the cardiovascular diseases was the focus of the interaction.
Speaking on the occasion of World Heart Day, Dr. Simmardeep Gill, COO, CK Birla Hospitals salutes all doctors and medical staff, who have been doing a marvellous job while running the greatest risk. Here are some Patient details who underwent complex cardiac surgeries and procedures during the lockdown.

Mr. J.S. Chauhan, a 50 years old man, underwent a bypass surgery few years back, had again felt a mild pain in his chest and dizziness. Fearing a heart attack, he was Immediately rushed to BM8. He was admitted and treated under Dr. Manoj Kr. Daga, Consultant Cardiologist, BMB. The patient heart blockage had MVR (Mitral Valve Replacement) procedure and is recovering. This was the first time he was treated at BMB and is very satisfied with the quality of service and treatment the hospital has provided him. He is still under Dr. Daga’s consultation and visiting the hospital for routine check-ups.

Mr. Ruchit Kumar Saraf, a logistics consultant of a reputed foreign company, had breathing difficulties since childhood. However, his condition suddenly took a turn for the worse and he had to be rushed to the hospital. Considering his critical condition, his family decided to admit him to BMB under the care of Dr. Ratan Kr. Das, Consultant Cardiologist, BMB. Dr. Das recommended an immediate CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting) surgery. The surgery was carried out smoothly. According to Mr. Saraf, the doctor gave him strong emotional support during the pandemic and the positivity of the environment around him contributed immensely to his speedy recovery. He’s currently undergoing routine review check-ups under Dr. R. K. Das and recovering well.

Mr. Santosh Kr. Dukania, a 68 years old man, had underwent a bypass surgery around 15 years ago and a pacemaker implantation few years ago under Dr. Anil Mishra, Consultant Cardiologist BMB. He was again admitted to the hospital during the lockdown period with a chest pain. His family members admitted him to the hospital under the able care of Dr. Anil Mishra. Post thorough examination, Dr. Mishra had recommended a battery replacement of his already implanted pacemakers. Following the doctor’s advice, Mr. Dukania and his family decided to go ahead with the surgery. His trust towards his doctor and the hospital gave him a pain free and a comfortable life post-surgery. He is now ready to take on life’s challenges without any fear and inhibitions.

Mr. Sabgatilla, a 26 years old man, underwent a PTCA procedure in 2019. However, his condition suddenly worsens. The severe pain was initially mistaken as a gastrointestinal pain with shortness of breath but after few hours of prolonged extreme pain he had to be rushed to BMB. He was admitted under Dr. Dhiman Kahali, Consultant Cardiologist, BMB. Post examination, the doctor recommended an immediate surgery. Being so young, he had a lot of apprehensions but ultimately settled for a surgery. His complete opinion changed once the surgery was successfully conducted. According to the patient, the treatment which was provided by the hospital is unmatched and he is very contented with the service the hospital provided.

Mr. Ujjal Das, a 36 years old businessman from Howrah got a second lease of life at BMB. He had an indescribable pain in his chest which made him rush to BMB despite of all the fear due to this pandemic. The covid-free hospital provided him with primary PTCA (percutaneous coronary intervention) which helped his blood to circulate unobstructed to the hurt muscles. He suffered a heart attack during the procedure but his will power and positive attitude saw him make a quick recovery under the able care of Dr. Sabyasachi Paul, Consultant Cardiologist, BMB. Đoctor as well as the dedicated health workers at BMB handled him with a positive attitude which heiped him recover rapidly. He sounded extremely pleased with the treatment he received and the healthy environment at the hospital.
