In the discipline of orthopaedics, Kolkata conducts a two-day conference on pelvis & acetabular trauma. Dr. Rakesh Rajput, Director & HOD, Orthopaedic Surgeon, CMRI Kolkata said, “It is my privilege to host the conference, AOPASS 2022 for the Association of Indian Pelvic and Acetabular Surgeons. This conference will focus on pelvic & acetabular trauma, since this is perhaps the most challenging topic in management of complex trauma. In this conference, a small group of 150 surgeons from all over the country, will brainstorm on various surgical techniques to fix the challenging fractures and other bone health problems. We will also have foreign faculties from Argentina, who will join us . Apart from him we also have eminent faculties from US, UK and Thailand, who will be joining us virtually. In this conference, there will be two workshops. one would be at R G Kar Medical College and another at KPC Medical College. CMRI (Calcutta Medical Research Institute) will host live surgeries which will be beamed at Hotel Hindustan International, (the venue of the conference). The younger breed of pelvic and acetabular surgeons who are excited and flag bearers of future trauma surgery will be taught how to be safe in their surgical approach, as well as how to apply plates and screws accurately in various regions of the pelvis and acetabulum for best clinical outcome.”
Dr. Rajput goes on to say that pelvic and acetabular trauma is more common in young and fit people who have fallen from a great height or have been in a car accident. Since they are primarily fit and active people who are typically the breadwinners of their families. it is essential to give them a good quality of life. This is possible if there is excellent clinical outcome using advanced surgical techniques and skillset.
Since, acetabular factures are complex and it involves pelvic ring factures which are extremely difficult, such conferences with upcoming experts will undoubtedly give a new perspective in the field of orthopaedics.
