Ever since 2016, this event, which has been efficiently managed by Sportiz, has had 6 consecutive editions. The group plans its 7th edition of the Kolkata Trail Run on 9th January, 2022.
In 2022 JBG takes this initiative a notch higher by making it national. The 2022 multi-city trail run will diversify from running to cycling too. The reassuring part this time is the AIMS-certification (AIMS is an international body for marathons) that has been tagged to these 10 km marathons. This will enable participants to acquire timing certificates from AIMS that can qualify them for participation in international marathon events.
Speaking at the event, Nishant Maheshwari, Director of Sportiz said, “JBG and Sportiz have been a great team and together we have committed to offer quality sporting experience to the fitness community. The launch of JBG Endura 101 is another stepping stone in this direction.”

Prostate is a gland in the male reproductive system and it wraps around the urethra. It is usually of the size of a walnut but gradually with age and other factors, it starts to enlarge and lead to several problems during a man’s lifecycle. Prostate problems are very common in India. Almost 50% of population of age group 50 years suffer from prostate problems, and almost 70% of population of age group around 70 years, have issues relating to their prostate. Prostate problem is not merely a genetic disease but it may also occur due to environmental factors and dietary factors. Intake of too much fatty foods leads to prostate problem. Also, more caffeine and nicotine consumption may lead to increased symptoms of prostate. This is because nicotine and caffeine being diuretic substances increase the formation of urine, which in turn leads to increase in severity of symptoms as the flow of urine is already obstructed by prostate. As a result, patient presents with frequency and urgency. Symptoms of prostate problem include slow urinary stream, frequent urination, difficulty in starting urination, dribbling after urination, leakage or urgency of urination, urination that starts and stops immediately, and many more including Nocturia which may give sleep disturbance.
According to Dr. Pankaj K Gupta, Consultant Urologist, CMRI, Kolkata, “Prostate problems can be classified into three major types- Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), Prostatitis, & Prostate Cancer. BPH refers to the enlargement of prostate gland with age, which leads to difficulty in urination. Prostatitis is the swelling or inflammation of the Prostate may be due to infection. Prostate problem does not necessarily mean that it can be cancerous. Proper clinical evaluation is needed. If the prostate issue is not taken care of on time by medical management or surgical management, and the patient continues passing urine with pressure, it can lead to Hydronephrosis and that can further lead to kidney damage. If treatment is delayed, patient may suffer from Bladder stones, Recurrent UTI, Recurrent Bleeding, Irreversible Bladder changes and kidney failure. Men must consult a Urologist immediately if they notice any problem pertaining to urination. Also, men of age around 50-55 years should go for regular prostate health check-up to maintain their overall wellbeing. Usually, it is seen that prostate problems crop up more during winter months. This is primarily due to the fact that we intake less amount of water during winter, which leads to Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and that further leads to Prostatitis. Secondly, in winter, people usually intake more food than water. This is a major reason for constipation and that, in turn, creates a hindrance in normal flow of urine. Prostate is well connected with bowel movement, hypertension, diabetes, etc that is metabolic disease. Hence, one change in any of these factors can play a huge role in altering the normal functioning of the prostate gland. “
He further added on the treatment and cure of prostate problems, “In case of Prostatomegaly or prostate enlargement, the patient must immediately consult a Urologist and undergo proper evaluation and treatment. There is no need to panic and think that every problem will lead to fatality. One major concern is misunderstanding about prostate disease and their surgical management that may lead to improper and delayed treatment and substandard postsurgical result. The Urologist will understand the severity of the problem and will take necessary steps for treatment. There are chances that the Prostate is partly affected by Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and partly by Prostate Cancer, so proper evaluation and Guided biopsy is most important especially in Prostate cancer. It should be kept in mind that the cancer can spread and affect the entire gland and adjacent organs including Bones. However, proper treatment should be started for the patient to minimise or prevent the chance of spreading cancer and related complications. At CMRI, we have been diligently working to use modern technology and amenities to treat the patients suffering from prostate problems. With the help of serum PSA and Free serum PSA now we can segregate most of our patients. We conduct Uroflowmetry Test with USG of high standard on the patient to detect any obstruction in the flow of urine. We also use Multiparametric MRI to detect whether there is a chance of cancer in Prostate. If we find the reading ranges between 4 and 5, we send the patient for a prostate biopsy after proper clinical evaluation. This method is also beneficial to rule out the chance of cancer, if not detected in previous biopsy. We use Latest surgical methods for BPH to prevent too much of blood loss during surgery. Laser surgery is especially helpful for aged and cardiac patient and those on pacemaker support and on blood thinners. Laser surgery for prostate can be of various types like Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP), Thulium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate and many others. Thunderbeat which is used for bipolar prostate transurethral resection or vaporisation.”
Dr. Pankaj Gupta advices on exercising and losing weight, in order to keep prostate healthy. Patients suffering from prostate problems should consume more amount of prostate friendly foods like green leafy vegetables, nuts, pomegranate, fish and should reduce the intake of sugar, tea and coffee. They should have a regular and good bowel habit. They MUST AVOID EXCESSIVE INTAKE OF WATER. Dr. Gupta urges all men above 50 years to get regular thorough medical screening done in order to keep prostate problems under check. DON’T Take Unnecessarily medicines for Prostate by just seeing that your USG report says Prostatomegaly. DON’T Panic after just seeing a raised PSA value (It’s not always due to cancer and that’s why need proper evaluation). Following these steps can foster a better prostate health and provide vigour to the body to fight illness.

Adding to the vibrant café culture of Hindustan Park and Southern Avenue, the second outlet of the well-known eatery Royal Bengal Tiger Café has recently opened its doors at 78 Lake Road spread over an area of 1500 square foot accommodating 60 seats.
The brainchild of architect Pranab Chatterjee, who first ventured into the food business in 2016, opening the flagship outlet in 91 Golf Club Road, the second outlet has different décor without compromising on the core ‘Bangaliana’ of the cafe. “If we can walk into an air-conditioned space and enjoy a hamburger or pizza in Kolkata, isn’t it unfair that we miss out on all the sumptuous Bengali street food just because there are no air-conditioned, clean cafes offering dimer devil or ghoogni?” he asks. It struck him that with the disappearance of Bengali food of the ilk – flavours, tastes, memories and nostalgia from an era that are deeply entrenched in the Bengali DNA – a significant aspect of Bengali heritage was also getting lost. At once, he sprung to action and conceptualized the Royal Bengal Tiger Café, his way of giving back to a city that has richly rewarded him.
As an avid Kolkatan who once meandered the streets of the city munching on signature Bengali fast-food, Chatterjee was heartbroken a few years ago to see fast-food joints from a past epoch getting wiped out from the city’s map. “City dwellers who have seen the economic and cultural landscape of Kolkata transform into a more cosmopolitan texture over the years will admit that they miss the aromatic moghlai porota of Anaadi Cabin or, say, Golbarir kosha mangsho. There was a time when we landed up unannounced at friends’ and relatives’ houses for Bijoya Dashami where we were invariably greeted with bowls of aromatic, Bengali-style ghoogni,” recalls Chatterjee.
Chatterjee’s uncompromising and diligent care in sticking to the original recipes by using generous amounts of quality ingredients has retained the original taste of specialties like Chicken Moglai, Egg Devil with Mutton, Chicken Piri Piri Sandwich, Laal Maas (Rajasthani Red Mutton) and paratha, Pork Vindaloo and pav. Owing to a more health-conscious crowd that has evolved over the past few years, he has minimized the use of oil. “We give the food a crispy texture using less oil as people do not like grease dripping from their cutlets and devils these days,” cautions Chatterjee.
Drinks’ menu includes flavourful Cappucino, Machiato, Khus Sherbet, Cold Brew and Blue Mountain Coffee that bring back decades-old memories of the juice-stands and carts in the alleyways of north Kolkata. The prices are quite unbelievable too – with a pocket pinch of just Rs. 500 for coffee and meals for two, this place is a dream-come-true for believers of value-for-money.
While the old outlet on Golf Green exudes a jovial, old-world aura, the new outlet on Lake Road is a business café equipped with comfortable seating and strong wifi. There are two enclosures within the café – one with a relaxed seating arrangement where the multi-talented Chatterjee, also the vocalist of a band, “Khola Hawa,” plans to start live bands.
Plans are on the anvil to begin a breakfast service everyday of the week that will comprise a comprehensive, old-school, British platter filled with beans, mushrooms and scrambled eggs on toast, fluffy omelettes, ham, cheese and bacon sandwiches rounded up with Irish coffee that promises a total expense of just Rs. 350 per person.
The other enclosure is designed for business travelers who come to the city for meetings and fly out the same day. “With Dire Straits, Eagles, old Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey songs playing softly in the background with an occasional bit of Bollywood thrown in, it is my whole-hearted attempt to give a slice of the old Kolkata ambience and food to these roughneck coffee-drinkers who come from various parts of India,” Pranab muses.
With live local bands to bring the space to life soon on Fridays, the Royal Bengal Tiger Café on Lake Road is emerging as one of the city’s most exciting joints for visitors of all age groups who want to enjoy heritage Kolkata street food, aromatic coffee and a range of hot drinks and mocktails infused with dollops of experiences from a monochrome and Eastmancolour tinted bygone era.
